Prepare for your journey

The preparation period is a powerful way to begin your journey. It's a time to honor your commitment to the medicine and to cleanse your body, mind, and spirit so you can receive the deepest possible healing.

Beginning at least four days before your arrival at Centro Inka Meraya, we ask that you follow these guidelines:

  • Food and Drink: Avoid alcohol, red meat, and pork (also known as "chancho" in Peru). Do not consume raw fish, such as ceviche or sushi, or spicy foods like chili, or “ají” in Peru.
  • Physical Activity: Abstain from sexual activity.

Medical Considerations

Your safety and well-being are our highest priority. Before deciding to participate in a ceremony, it is essential that you:

  • Serious Health Conditions: Consult with your physician if you have a cardiovascular disorder or any other serious health condition.
  • Medications: Talk to your physician if you are taking antidepressants, other psychotropic drugs, or any medication that may contraindicate with MAO (Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors).

What to Expect

The Ayahuasca Medicine

At Centro Inka Meraya, we honor the ancient tradition of preparing our sacred brew with purity and intention.

We use only two primary ingredients: the Ayahuasca vine and the leaves of the chacruna plant. Nothing else is added to the medicine. The brew is prepared by Shipibo onanyas (shamans). Guests are welcome to participate in this sacred preparation to deepen their connection with the medicine.

Our ingredients are sourced with great care and respect for the land. We are proud to cultivate the chacruna leaves on the very same property where our center is located. The Ayahuasca vine is ethically and locally sourced from the surrounding communities. When weather permits, we invite guests to join us on a nature walk to visit the Ayahuasca vine itself.

Ceremony & Accommodations

We believe in providing a safe and intimate setting for your experience. To ensure each guest receives personal attention and support, our ceremonies are limited to a maximum of 12 guests at a time. Each ceremony is facilitated by one or two experienced shamans and one or two assistants, depending on the group size.

Weather & Climate

The weather in the Amazon rainforest is a vibrant and dynamic part of your journey. Here is what you can expect:

  • The Rainy Season: This season runs from early to mid-November through February, sometimes extending into March. During this time, the forest is lush and alive with new growth. Be sure to pack rain gear like a poncho and rain boots to stay comfortable.
  • Cold Snap: Between June and September, a cold snap can move in, causing a noticeable drop in temperature. A light jacket, socks, and pants will be helpful for this time.
  • The Rest of the Year: For the majority of the year, we enjoy the beautiful warmth and humidity of the rainforest. We recommend packing light, quick-drying clothes and slip-on sandals, which are useful year-round. Bring your poncho or rain jacket just in case.
